Scalable Display Technologies and VDC Display Systems Complete Display Solution for U.S. Marine Corps MSAT Program

Scalable Display Technologies, a leading provider of software for multi-projector display systems, and partner VDC Display Systems, a division of Video Display Corporation, today announced it has completed installation of its EasyBlend™ software for a visual display solution for the U.S. Marines Corps' Multipurpose Supporting Arms Trainer (MSAT) program.

VDC, which specializes in the design and manufacture of projector systems for the simulation and training community, lead the contract to develop a state-of-the-art visual system for the MSAT-3 simulator at the Naval Air Strike and Air Warfare Center in Fallon, Nevada. Under the prime contract issued to TJ Inc., the objective was to provide an eye-limiting stable Primary Visual Display that would exceed training requirements with new and advanced technology, including day, twilight and night capabilities, which would allow trainees to use actual field equipment and night-vision devices to detect targets close to real-world environments not possible with other multi-projector solutions.

The visual simulation system consists of three SRX-S105 Sony high-resolution projectors driven by Presagis' Vega Prime image generators (IG) and Scalable Display's EasyBlend calibration software. The screen is a partial dome with a 260 degree horizontal and a 60 degree vertical field of vision.

EasyBlend offers the greatest level of technical precision in the industry, making it the ideal auto-calibration technology for military simulations. Using a patented camera-generated feedback system to calculate pixel-perfect instructions, or warp meshes, EasyBlend automatically calibrates the display and completes the task of aligning multiple projector display systems within seconds to achieve the highest quality edge-blended images with rich and precise color. By using camera feedback of an image array to correct for image warping, adjust color and blend images, EasyBlend produces displays that are bright, high resolution, portable, and self-calibrating. This purely digital approach enables display systems that cannot be engineered by conventional means, either mechanically or optically.
